How truck driving bans work
Most EU countries ban heavy trucks on Sundays and public holidays, and many add extra bans in summer on the busiest holiday weekends. The weight limit differs: usually 7.5 t gross vehicle weight, but 3.5 t or 12 t in some countries.
Bans follow each country's local time and its own public holidays. A normal working day at home can be a ban day in Germany or Austria, so dispatchers check every country on the route, not just the country of departure.
Common exemptions
Almost every country exempts perishable goods, live animals, fuel deliveries, combined transport to the nearest terminal and vehicles with a special permit. The exact conditions differ by country, so check the official source shown for each one.
